From the trailhead, the trail descends into the Horton Creek river bed. You will cross the creek and follow the path coming to a fence in a quarter mile.
When the trail forks, you can take either the left or the right which follows the creek through campsites. The arms of the fork rejoin in another mile.
The rest of the trail follows the creek with gentle grade, but after 2 miles the trail does climb through rocky terrain. Once you reach the creek crossing, the trail meets up with Highline Trail #31 where Horton Creek Trail ends.
To get to the spring, follow the creek to the left (around the corner). The spring does run year round.
You can return the same way or make a loop by taking the Highline trail via Derrick Trail #33 back to the trailhead.
