Southwestern Caesar's Amanita  - Amanita caesarea

Location/Trail:  Wing MountainDate sighted:  8/13/2010Season:  SummerCap bright orange when fresh, but fades/dulls with sun exposure. Cap is smooth and bold, with a large white sack or veil tissue (enveloping young mushrooms) forming a skirt at base of stalk.

Found ususally in open pine forests, singularly or in clumps, after summer rains.

Edible and tasty, but be sure of your identification.
