This short and pleasant trail will take you to an old cabin site on the side of the San Francisco Peak.

Features and Interests: Historic site of the Jenks and Veit cabins and springs.

Trail DescriptionThis hike starts with a gentle climb behind the trailhead sign. On the other side of the hill the trail opens up revealing a fork; keep right, going downhill on the open meadow. The trail does have a few forks, but always take the Trail marked fork. The trail gently winds through the Aspen forest, eventually crossing under small power lines and opening up to a large boulder with a plaque honoring Lamar Haines. Continuing left, you will see the cabin of an 1892 settlement by Ludwig Veit (site was used for cattle and sheep operations). The trail does make a loop, but you can also return on the same route as going in.

Elevation: 8540ft - 8600ft (change 60ft)

Accomodations: (on site) Directions:From Flagstaff, take the Highway 180 to mile marker 223. There, take a right onto the Snow Bowl Road. Stay on this road for about 4.4 miles to a small turn off on the right hand side. The parking is just off the road in a bend on the right. The trailhead is behind the gate, wrapping behind the sign marking the Lamar Haines Memorail Wildlife Area.Accessibility:Paved road or trail to the trailhead
