Probably the most scenic and beautiful hikes of Flagstaff area. The mountains are very dramatic and resemble Colorado with 11,000-12,000+ ft peaks surrounding you in the basin.

From the trailhead, you hike an old forest road that is closed to off-road use (only on foot or mountain biking traffic). You hike through a variety of forests, from Aspen to Pine, up a steady sloping road all the way to the basin. The hike is pleasant and very open, you won't get lost.
Trail Distance:  4.5 miles round-trip
Elevation:  8600ft - 9800ft   (change 1200ft)
Trail Difficutly:  Difficult - good physical fitness is a must, large elevation changes
How Crowded:  Occassional passing
Season:  March to October
Accomodations: (on site)   Toilets  Water  CampingFrom Flagstaff, take the 89 North about 17 miles to the Sunset Crater road. Make a LEFT onto FR552, and drive about 1.2 miles to a right for Lockett Meadow. The road will wind up the mountain to Lockett Meadow campground. The trailhead is all the way back of campsites, let of the toilets.Good dirt road with rough patches, off-road vehicle recommended.
